NELLIE MARKS NAKAMARRA - Puli 183cm x 122cm
Puli means Rocky Outcrop in Nellie’s language, Pintupi. The Puli are found all over the Central Deserts and are home to an abundance of wild life and plant life. The knowledge of what can be found in these rocky outcrops is passed on from one generation to the next.
POLLY NGALA - Bush Plum 183cm x 122cm
Using a selection of different shades and colours, Polly creates an abstract depiction of the Bush Plum by applying thick dots to the canvas with a wide bristled paint brush. Bush Plums are collected by the women and these fruits are an important food source for the people of Polly’s country to the north east of Alice Springs.
Margaret Lewis Napangardi - Mina Mina 183cm x 122cm
This multicoloured artwork is painted in Margarets signature style from a few years ago and is a topographical depiction of her country, Mina Mina, which is located to the west of Yuendumu in Central Australia. The women are depicted as U shapes throughout the painting and can be seen traversing the country performing ceremony. It is rare for Margaret to paint in this style today as she has adopted a much more minimal approach to painting her dreamings.
THOMAS TJAPALTJARRI - Tingari 183cm x 122cm
Tingari is Thomas’ depiction of the creation of his country by the Ancestral Spirits. The ceremony and song lines from this story are passed onto the younger generation to this day. Thomas and his family are known as the Puntupi Nine or the Lost Tribe, and only had contact with white man for the first time in the 1980’s. Such a lovely overview of your Artists work. I'm missing my yearly trip to your area and by seeing the smiling faces and beautiful paintings warmed my heart and made me very thankful for the great work you all at Yubu Napa do. Thank you dear Karl and Rick. Cheers Su Brown
