Spring Has Sprung!
Warmer weather in the Red Centre, flights announced with Bonza and some colourful artworks for spring.
As we move away from winter, The Red Centre has started to warm up with beautiful days, but still a little cooler at night. This is a wonderful time to get out and about in our region and see the rugged landscape that surrounds Alice Springs! And with the news of Bonza Airlines bringing their routes to Alice Springs (starting Mid December, bookings open now), there has never been a better time to plan your next trip to the Red Centre.
To celebrate, we thought we would select a range of bright, colourful artworks to welcome the warm weather. Click on any artist profile photo to be directed to that artists page, or the artworks to see that specific work.
With her Bush Medicine Leaf artworks, Bernadine had cemented her place as one of Central Australia’s premier colourists. The combinations of colours used to create these artworks have made her paintings highly sought after for many years. The medicine leaf style has been adopted by many artists, yet Bernadine takes this style one step further with a layer of delicate white dots (as seen above in her profile photo).
This year, we have seen Bernadine and her husband, Stephen Martin Pitjara, start creating intricate artworks titled My Country, a style perhaps best known as a popular artwork painted by Stephen’s sister, Anna Price Pitjara. Many elements of the land around Boundary Bore are depicted using the tiny dotting style with a mix of colour and white paint. Click Bernadine’s photo above to see her artist page, where you can view her range of works available on our website.
Seven Sisters Dreaming is one of the most recognisable artworks and the method employed by Athena to create these works has become a thing of legend! She was taught this technique by an artist from Melbourne who had spent time at Yuendumu working at Warlukarlangku Art Centre and has continued to develop this style. We will be showing some new works by Athena in October which have been created in a slightly different manner to her current work.
Working with Athena recently, we had heard from her that she loves using a wide range of colours to create these works and she is keen to experiment with this story to tell it in a different way. Being the granddaughter of Alma Granites Nungurrayi, who passed away several years ago, we have no doubt that Athena will continue to excite her many fans world-wide.
Nellie has recently painted some of her Travelling Women artworks using a palette of colour from all the way across the rainbow! These works are created using thickly applied, textured dots which give them a whole other dimension. The bright colours are far from her usual palettes, but the way Nellie uses each colour is second to none! Not many artists can use this many colours to such a great effect.
