Welcome to Winter in the Red Centre! With big clear blue skies, cooler days and cold nights, Alice Springs and the Red Centre starts to come alive during this time of year.
Beautiful desert skies in the Red Centre right now!
We start seeing visitors return to explore the MacDonnell Ranges, Kings Canyon, Uluru and The Barkley Region. And of course, these visitors are looking for somewhere to view an amazing array of Australian Aboriginal Art while they are here.
We have a stunning array of bold, colourful artwork hanging in the gallery at the moment. Australian Indigenous Art has moved away from the more traditional palettes that have been seen for many years since the start of the Central Australian Aboriginal Art Movement in the 1970’s and we are seeing more creative depictions of the stories behind these works as well.
The original Papunya Tula Artworks were true to the traditional story telling that inspired them. The stories that were drawn in the sand were painted onto the canvas, with dotwork added to fill up the canvas. Today, many artists don’t ‘draw a story’ with paint. Some artists paint a much more abstract artwork directly onto the canvas without drawing stories first. Andrea Adamson, Gwenda Turner, Fabrianne Peterson, Julie and Sabrina Robertson among others are just a small example of such artists.
Works by these talented artists and many more can be viewed on our website. Go to www.yubunapa.com and select the artist tab to start exploring. If you would like to see new additions to the site, select the artworks tab instead.
Gwenda Turner Nungurrayi has been using a big bold palette of colour to create her budgerigar works and really enjoys creating these colourful artworks. Click the image below to view her latest works on our website.
